Progress Report as at December 2009

We are now just over half way through the 4-year survey period with two winter and two breeding seasons now completed. The take up of tetrads for timed tetrad Visits (TTVs) in the county has been spectacular and is now virtually at 100% and our hope is to complete the vast majority of TTVs by the end of the third year. By September 2009 nearly 71% of winter TTVs and 64% of breeding ones had been completed – a superb achievement! However, breeding evidence is lacking for many species – something we have to concentrate on over the next two years: see increasing breeding evidence.

The first two years of atlas surveying are indicating a number of distribution changes from twenty years ago, some of which reflect known national trends, others perhaps not anticipated. Provisional distributions can be seen on the breeding and wintering distributions page.

The maps below show the TTV coverage up to September 2009:-
